Để đạt được band điểm mình mong muốn trong phần Speaking của IELTS, chúng ta không thể không bổ sung vốn từ vựng hàng ngày trong quá trình ôn luyện. Và việc học từ vựng thành các nhóm theo từng chủ đề cụ thể là một cách học rất khoa học cho những bạn đang yếu từ vựng. Chủ đề của ngày hôm nay là “Relationship”. Chúc các bạn học tốt!
- to break up (v): to end a romantic relationship = chia tay
- to drift apart (v): to become less close to someone = rời xa
- to enjoy someone’s company (v): to like spending time with someone = vui vẻ bên cạnh nhau
- to fall for (v): to fall in love = yêu
- to fall head over heels in love (v) : to start to love someone a lot = yêu say đắm
Ví dụ: “Like others, I don't like breaking up with my girlfriend/boyfriend after being together for a long time. I am scared of drifting apart from my loved one after enjoying each other's company for years. Instead, I love to fall head over heels in love”.
- to fall out with (v): to have a disagreement and stop being friends = bất hòa với ai đó
- to get on like a house on fire (v): to like someone’s company very much indeed = thích nhau và trở thành bạn nhanh chóng
- to get on well with (v): to understand someone and enjoy similar interests = hoà hợp với ai đó
- to get to know (v): to begin to know someone = bắt đầu tìm hiểu
- to go back years (v): to have known someone for a long time = biết nhau lâu
- to have a lot in common (v): to share similar interests = có nhiều điểm chung
Ví dụ: “I met her at the university and we got on like a house on fire. We have got on well with each other and have a lot in common. We both like playing tennis at the weekend. We have been very good friends for over 7 years now so you can say that we go back years. I do love to get to know you so please send me a message”.
- to have ups and downs (v): to have good and bad times = có những thăng trầm
- a healthy relationship (n) : a positive, long relationship = mối quan hệ lâu dài
- to hit it off (v): to quickly become good friends with = nhanh chóng trở thành bạn
- to be in a relationship: to be romantically involved with someone = trong mối quan hệ
- to be just good friends: to not be romantically involved = chỉ là bạn tốt của nhau
- to keep in touch with (v): to keep in contact with = giữ liên lạc
Ví dụ: “I have not got a healthy relationship with anybody if I don't keep in touch with them regularly. It is my case to hit it off with Marry and to be in a relationship very quickly, but we are just good friends now”.
- to lose touch with (v): to not see or hear from someone any longer = mất liên lạc với
- love at first sight (v): to fall in love immediately you meet someone = yêu từ cái nhìn đầu tiên
- to pop the question (v): to ask someone to marry you = cầu hôn
- to see eye to eye (v): to agree on a subject = đồng ý hoàn toàn
- to settle down (v): to give up the single life and start a family = lập gia đình
- through thick and thin: Despite difficult or troubling circumstances or setbacks, through good and bad times = qua bao sóng gió
Ví dụ: “I have lost touch with a soul mate who has been together with me for years. However, we accidentally met each other at a train station in London last two weeks. I popped the question in a surprising way, which shocked her quite a bit. She accepted my proposal and we settled down in the heart of the UK. We didn't love at first sight, and in fact, were like chalk and cheese in the first place, but we now see eye to eye under any circumstances. We value our love through thick and thin.”
- to strike up a relationship (v) : to begin a relationship = bắt đầu mối quan hệ
- to tie the knot (v): to get married = kết hôn
- to be well matched: to be similar to = hợp nhau
- to work at a relationship (v): to try to maintain a positive relationship with someone = duy trì mối quan hệ
Ví dụ: “As far as I remember, we stroke up a relationship right after we had had a date during our university life. Tying the knot was the last thing on my mind at that time because our families had not really agreed with that despite the fact that we were well matched. Later, we just tried to work at the relationship and nothing much went on.”
- under no circumstances: At no time; never = không xảy ra dưới bất kỳ tình huống nào
- celebrate their golden wedding anniversary (v): tổ chức đám cưới vàng
- a long-lasting marriage (n): một đám cưới bền lâu
Ví dụ: “My parents are going to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary and I really look up to their long-lasting marriage. They vowed to stay together under no circumstances.”
- Love each other unconditionally (v): Yêu ai đó vô điều kiện
- Pupply love (n): Tình yêu trẻ con
- Triangle love (n): Tình yêu tay ba
- Unrequited love (n): Tình yêu đơn phương
Ví dụ: “Unrequited love is like waiting for an airplane at a train station”.
