Khi bắt đầu học tiếng Anh, có lẽ mỗi một người đều cảm thấy hoang mang nhất khoản học từ mới đúng không? Không những thế mà có nhiều từ đọc vừa giống nhau mà viết cũng gần tương tự chỉ khác có vài âm tiết. Vậy ngày hôm nay mình xin giới thiệu với các bạn các cặp từ rất dễ nhầm với nhau trong tiếng Anh nhé!!!
1. Desert & Dessert
- Desert (n): sa mạc = a large area of land that has very little water and very few plants growing on it. Many deserts are covered by sand.
Eg: They travelled many miles across burning desert sands.
- Dessert (n): món tráng miệng = sweet food eaten at the end of a meal
Eg: The waiter asked us if we'd like to order a dessert.
2. Cook & cooker
- Cook (n): đầu bếp = a person who cooks food or whose job is cooking
Eg: She was employed as a cook in a hotel.
- Cooker (n): nồi nấu = a large piece of equipment for cooking food, containing an oven and gas or electric rings on top
Eg: a gas cooker/an electric cooker
3. Current & Currant
- Current (n): dòng (nước, điện,…), luồng gió,…
Eg: Birds of prey use warm air currents to lift them high in the sky.
Eg: He was swimming against the current.
- Currant (n): nho khô = a small dried grape, used in cakes, etc.
Eg: a currant bun
4. Envelop & Envelope
- Envelop (v): bao, bọc, phủ = to wrap somebody/something up or cover them or it completely
Eg: She was enveloped in a huge white towel.
- Envelope (n): phong bì = a flat paper container used for sending letters in, with a part that you stick down to close it
Eg: Writing paper and envelopes are provided in your room.
5. Loose & Lose
- Loose (adj): lỏng lẻo = not securely fixed where it should be; able to become separated from something
Eg: Check that the plug has not come loose.
- Lose (v): đánh mất (ai đó, phương hướng) = to be unable to find something/somebody
Eg: She lost her husband in the crowd.
6. Principal & Principle
- Principal (adj): chủ yếu = most important; main
Eg: The principal reason for this omission is lack of time.
- Principle (n): nguyên tắc = a moral rule or a strong belief that influences your actions
Eg: I refuse to lie about it; it's against my principles.
7. Fair & Fare
- Fair (adj): công bằng = acceptable and appropriate in a particular situation
Eg: The punishment was very fair.
- Fare (n): tiền (đò, tàu, xe,…)
Eg: The airline has introduced a cheap fare to New York.
8. Dairy & Diary
- Dairy (n): các sản phẩm làm từ sữa, trứng, … = milk, eggs, cheese and other milk products
Eg: The doctor told me to eat less red meat and dairy.
- Diary (n): nhật ký = a book in which you can write down the experiences you have each day, your private thoughts, etc.
Eg: Peter began writing his diary in October last year.
9. Stationary & Stationery
- Stationary (adj): đứng yên một chỗ = not moving; not intended to be moved
Eg: Some of the larger birds can remain stationary in the air for several minutes.
- Stationery (n): văn phòng phẩm = materials for writing and for using in an office, for example paper, pens and envelopes
Eg: You can find coloured pens and pencils in the stationery cupboard.
10. Fun & Funny
- Fun (n): sự pha trò = the feeling of enjoying yourself; activities that you enjoy
Eg: It was great fun! You should have come too.
- Funny (adj): hài hước = making you laugh/amusing
Eg: I found the play funny and moving.
