I. Phần mở đầu
Việc chuẩn bị vốn từ vựng phong phú luôn là ưu tiên cho phần thi IELTS Speaking. Dưới đây sẽ là một số gợi ý tiếp theo về các từ vựng hay cụm từ chủ đề Home & Accommodation cho các bạn để có thể chuẩn bị tốt nhất cho mình cho kỳ thi IELTS.
II. Các từ vựng chủ đề Home & Accommodation (tiếp)
d) Các từ vựng liên quan đến sở hữu và cho thuê:
1. to rent – đi thuê
Ví dụ: One day I hope to own my own home but for now, I can only afford to rent.
2. to rent out / let out – cho phép một người nào đó sống trong căn hộ hoặc một nơi ở với một khoản phí
Ví dụ: I inherited my mum’s bungalow when she died and I’ve decided to rent it out.
3. rented accommodation – một căn nhà, nơi ở mà một người cần phải trả một khoản tiền cố định cho người sở hữu nó để sống trong đó
Ví dụ: Being a university town, Exeter has lots of rented accommodation for the students.
4. landlord / landlady – chủ nhà
Ví dụ: I have an excellent landlord who always fixes things quickly when something needs repairing.
5. tenant – ai đó thuê một căn hộ hoặc ngôi nhà từ người sở hữu
Ví dụ: The people renting Adil’s flat gave notice last week so he’s looking for new tenants.
6. to give notice – thông báo cho ai đó rằng bạn sẽ rời đi hoặc họ được yêu cầu rời đi
Ví dụ: We gave the landlord the required 30-day’s notice that we would be moving out of the flat.
7. to put down a deposit – thực hiện thanh toán như một phần của hợp đồng cho thuê hoặc để đảm bảo mua hàng
Ví dụ: The landlord said that once we’d put down the deposit of £200, the flat was ours.
8. lease – thuê
Vi dụ: We gave him the £200 deposit immediately and agreed that we’d visit the office later to sign the lease.
9. short-term rental / lease –khoản thuê trong thời gian ngắn, thường dưới 1 năm
Ví dụ: The flat was only available on a short-term lease as the landlord wanted to sell it.
10. evict –buộc người thuê rời khỏi nếu họ không trả tiền thuê nhà hoặc họ cư xử không được chấp nhận
Ví dụ: The tenants in the flat above us used to play loud music all night long but thankfully the landlady evicted them.
11. fully-furnished – căn hộ thuê với đầy đủ tiện nghi
Ví dụ: As a student, I didn’t have any money to buy furniture so always rented fully-furnished accommodation.
12. estate agent (UK) / real estate agent (US) – đại lý bất động sản
Ví dụ: Kelly told the estate agent what sort of property she was looking for and he gave her the details of ten houses she might be interested in looking at.
13. to get on the property ladder – mua một tài sản giá thấp với mục đích mua một tài sản lớn hơn hoặc đắt hơn sau này
Ví dụ: They were fed up with paying high rents and longed to get on the property ladder and invest in a home of their own.
14. mortgage – một khoản vay lớn được đưa ra để mua một căn nhà hoặc căn hộ
Ví dụ: Tom was delighted when his mortgage application was accepted and he could go ahead with his house purchase.
15. to take out a mortgage – vay tiền ngân hàng để mua nhà
Ví dụ: Taking out a mortgage is a big commitment and most homeowners spend all their working life paying it off.
16. first-time buyer – người mua tài sản lần đầu tiên
Ví dụ: The developer converted the old house into four apartments that would be affordable to first-time buyers.
17. repossess – lấy lại quyền sở hữu một cái gì đó, đặc biệt là một tài sản khi thanh toán thế chấp chưa được thực hiện
Ví dụ: Finn lost his job and couldn’t pay his mortgage so the bank repossessed it.
e) Các vật dụng phía trong căn nhà:
1. (all the) mod cons – các thiết bị trong nhà giúp bạn dễ dàng thực hiện các công việc như giặt giũ, nấu ăn, dọn dẹp, v.v.
Ví dụ: The furnished apartment I’m interested in renting has all the mod cons, including a dishwasher and tumble drier which many rentals don’t have.
2. appliances – thiết bị, máy hoặc thiết bị, đặc biệt là thiết bị điện, thực hiện một công việc cụ thể trong nhà, chẳng hạn như bếp hoặc máy giặt
Ví dụ: It must have been such hard work for my grandmother running a home without all the time-saving appliances we have today.
3. fitted kitchen – một nhà bếp với tủ và các vật dụng được thiết kế để phù hợp với không gian chính xác và sau đó cố định tại chỗ
Ví dụ: My new fitted kitchen has built-in appliances which make so much better use of the space.
4. built-in wardrobe – một tủ quần áo, một phần của một căn phòng và được cố định vào tường
Ví dụ: I didn’t need to buy much bedroom furniture for my first flat as it had built-in wardrobes.
5. carpeted – sàn nhà trải thảm
Ví dụ: Some people like bare floorboards in their home but I prefer the rooms to be carpeted.
6. furniture – nội thất
Ví dụ: Terry and Hannah went to town to choose some furniture for their new extension.
7. utilities – tiện ích như gas, điện, nước
Ví dụ: On top of the rental fee, they had to pay for the utilities as well.
8. spacious – rộng rãi
Ví dụ: Mina loved her friend’s new home, especially the spacious kitchen.
9. cosy – ấm cúng
Ví dụ: Old cottages have really thick walls which makes them cool in summer but cosy in winter.
10. natural light – ánh sáng tự nhiên
Ví dụ: I hate houses that are dark inside and like my home to be full of natural light.
11. elevator (US) / lift (UK) –Thang máy
Ví dụ: Chris often walked up the stairs to his tenth-floor flat but took the lift if he was carrying shopping.
